Our local libraries provide us with so much more than books…
The Waldport Public Library is not just a place to get books. It is an essential, integral part of the community with an incredible number of programs for everyone from infants to the oldest citizens. There are reading programs for the little ones, writing contests for teens, Lego clubs, craft projects, remote-control car races, raffles, reading contests for kids and adults, computers for those who don’t have one, and all this in addition to access to an infinite variety of books. If the book you want isn’t there it can be obtained from another library or downloaded on your favorite device. You can also listen to a book or watch a movie. The library has it all, and fortunately there is a very involved Friends of the Library organization which helps to support the variety of programs provided.

However, while the library is this hub of activity it is also bursting at the seams. Space is limited and room to add new books is at a premium. The Waldport Library Foundation has been formed in order to raise funds to support capital projects for the library and help finance possible future expansion. Library foundations provide opportunities for an array of revenue sources to supplement tax support through donations, grants, endowments, sponsorships, annuities, etc., and offer donors a means of giving tax-deductible contributions. As we progress the Foundation will welcome any support, suggestions for projects, and ideas for fund-raising activities.

HOW YOU CAN HELP
There are many ways in which contributions may be made, including: cash bequests, endowments, property, stocks or bonds, qualified charitable distributions, life insurance, and charitable trusts and estate arrangements. Depending on the wishes expressed by donors, gifts can be used to support current projects and programs or directed to an Endowment Fund that generates interest annually to guarantee ongoing support and build funds for future expansion. If you match your contribution to the Waldport Library Foundation with a donation to the Oregon Cultural Trust it might qualify for a tax credit. For details, see the Trust web site, www.culturaltrust.org.
Many corporations provide matching funds for charitable contributions by their employees and retirees. Please contact them for the appropriate forms to increase your contribution. The Waldport Library Foundation can be named as a beneficiary in your will, life insurance policies, or other estate plans. Bequests and gifts may be in the form of money, property, investments, or a portion of an estate. Consult your attorney, accountant, or financial advisor for help in determining the type of gift that will work for you.
Donations to the Foundation are tax deductible. The Foundation is registered as a private, 501(c)(3) non-profit with the IRS but donors should consult their financial advisers regarding specific tax benefits for their gifts. Recurring donations help to ensure continued operational support.
